Each year in February the Pine Island Art Association hosts its annual Fine Art Show and Sale. The event features works from more than 100 local artists and includes more than 500 paintings in acrylic, oil, pastel, pen and ink and watercolor, with an emphasis on Florida landscapes, seascapes, birds, fish and flowers. The Show draws return visitors from many parts of the United States to Matlacha, where pelicans and great blue herons circle above moored fishing boats, brightly painted galleries, and fresh fish markets.
